Sailing on the Menai Straits

The Cessner at the docks at Plas Newydd

I was lucky enough today to take a sail down the Menai Straits, between Anglesey and mainland Wales. I can count the days of my personal sailing experience on one hand, so can lay no great claims to being an able seaman of any kind - but was given the role of steering for a bit which was good fun.

The boat (something called a J80) was big enough to fit 7 of us on quite comfortably and I was assured that there was no risk of a capsize, which made the whole thing rather relaxing. Light winds and hazy blue skies provided a very chilled and sociable trip up to Y Felinheli and then back down to Britannia bridge.

During the scenic cruise, we saw a few Herons, Shags and had a few Curlew fly past. Finished off with a drink in the garden at the Anglesey Arms in Menai Bridge. All in all a very pleasant evening getting to know new people.
