A Non-Alpine Alpine Start

Given the fact that it's August and the UK roads are generally already too busy, we opted to try and avoid any traffic chaos and leave Somerset under cover of darkness and get back up to The Cottage before things got busy.

A 4:45am alarm ensured that we were on the drove at 5am and heading north on clear, quite roads. For our efforts we were treated to a beautiful sunrise as we approached Bristol.

The plan worked as we'd hoped and soon enough we'd snuck back into Wales with maximum fuel efficiency and un-touched cruise control. We were greeted with rainbows after something like five weeks away!

On arrival back at The Cottage, we let ourselves in and went straight up to bed, where we slept for several hours! By chance, in the afternoon, there was a small fete near Coed-y-Parc, so I rode down on my bike and spent a few hours chatting with friends and acquaintances. Since then, we've devoted a few days to giving The Cottage some love, after a summer of neglect! Gardens and painting jobs have been the theme, while slowly unpacking from our travels - and getting ready for the next!
