Sea Kayaking around Moelfre, Anglesey

Another glorious Bank Holiday Weekend day! Having left The Cottage in shorts and sandals plans for sea kayaking around the west coast of Anglesey had to be changed at the last minute. As we approached the sea, we discovered that a thick bank of sea fog was hugging the coast. It was astonishing - inland, there was not a cloud in the sky, yet on the sea, all visibility (and warmth) was gone. We turned the car around and drove over to the East coast, where the coast still looked clear. Pulling up at the slipway in Moelfre, we quickly got unpacked as we could see more mist approaching!

Luckily, the fog bank seemed to be hanging around just out to sea, allowing us to paddle under clear skies.

Every now and then, so mist would sweep inland and obscure the view. The temperature differences between land and sea that were creating the mists, were also creating a bit of a breeze, so the crossing over to the island was actually quite choppy.

After circumnavigating Ynys Moelfre, we carried on north up the coast against the unexpected wind, which was cold on the fingers, before finding a sheltered landing spot to stop for lunch.

It didn't take long for the incoming tide to cover our low rocky lunching area and we were soon  back afloat and heading around the less-than-solid looking cliffs.

As we arrived back in Moelfre, the spooky mists made land fall! It was crazy busy in the bay, with sunbathers jet skiers and fishermen, so we didn't hang around when we got off the water and beat a hasty retreat back to the quiet of The Cottage and most impotantly - the sunshine!
