Poolside in Perigueux

Started the day (Thursday) with a bit more time on the road and by lunchtime we'd made it to the luxurious grounds of Pat and Bob's rural French hideaway near Perigueux.

After a quick dip in the pool, we tucked straight into a lovely lunch, with lots of chat on the shady terrace.

Later on, Bob and I went for a spin around the country lanes in his pride and joy (Audry the Alvis) which was a brilliant treat.

There are no seat belts, but it does have automatic gears, comfy leather seats and a real walnut dashboard! And obviously, it just looks cool - very James Bond...

Since then, the last few days have involved lots of fine foods, swimming, chatting, walking and generally taking it easy. Happy days indeed and a well needed break for us both.

Pat went all out with the catering and we were even treated to her famous German Cheesecake - something I've heard lots about, but never tasted (it's even rarer than a Cherry Bakewell Dad!) Served with a fine coffee, it was well worth the wait!

And so followed more swimming....

BBQ cuisine and al fresco fine dining...

A bit of boating and pool fun...

And just some general relaxation in the garden....

Until finally we had to say our goodbyes and we moved onto the next stage of this summers adventures. After (another) delicious lunch and a final dip in pool, we re-loaded the van and continued south.

As we passed the town of Lourdes and began to climb up into the Haute Pyrenees, the skies clouded over and we arrived in the town of Luz Saint Sauveur in heavy rain! What a contrast to the 34°C blue skies of Perigueux! We've just moved into our new home for the next week. It's on the third floor of a very old building and the balcony looks right out into the mountain side. Pyrenees adventures start here!
