Welsh Spring Surf

After a grim morning of gales and heavy rain, the day ended with a stunner sunset and the clouds moving away to reveal fresh snow on the mountains of Snowdonia!

Before the misty rain dispersed, we took ourselves off to te beach to meet some keen friends who had also decided that the best thing to be doing on such a day was to catch a wave in the Anglesey surf.

Given that our last surf was in Fiji, wearing only board shorts, it was a serious shock getting decked up in full wetsuits. But the shock of getting changed was nothing compared to the shock of getting in the water! I actually cried out in pain, and may even have had a tear in my eye! I didn't have wetsuit gloves and the cold Irish Sea was a serious shocker! Eventually, I managed to take the pain and catch a few waves, but Clare was definatly surf queen as she got some real big ones!
If getting changed was hard, getting back into clothes was worse! Club hands and bouts of shivering didn't help. Once changed, the weather was like a completely different day and after saying goodbye to the others, we extended the day by taking a warming walk along the sand in the evening sunshine which was beautiful.

On the way back to The Cottage, we stopped to admire the Snowdonia panorama, with its fresh snow covering, then called into Dylan's at Menai Bride for some mini burgers (called Glyders not Sliders!). Top finish to an exciting (if cold) afternoon back in the North of Wales.
