Back on the road again. And why not - we’d been home for nearly three days after all! Having repacked our lives into a couple of rucksacks, we headed out of Wales and watched the thermometer gradually tick upwards as we made our journey south. By early evening we had arrived in Surrey, having left The Cottage at a respectable 21°C and arrived in an unprecedented 30°C warmth. British summertime was in full effect and made for a very enjoyable and relaxing catch up in the evening warmth at Dockenfield.
The following cloudless day, Lloyd took us up to Hindhead Commons for a Sunday walkabout around the Devil’s Punchbowl.
At a height of 270m, it was a few degrees cooler and open to a welcome cooling breeze.
While the trig point might not have been the highest we’ve been to, it certainly had a great viewpoint.
The top of the trig point indicated various distant locations.
Even without the binoculars, you could see the Shard and the London Skyline on the horizon, some 48miles away. We could also see the arch of the Wembley Stadium.
It was a brilliant view and after our walk, we enjoyed some more chat over a cold drink in the shade at the cafe. Temperatures stayed hot, so after calling in on Mary and Ralph, we dined outside in shorts and t-shirts, only going in once the stars had started to come out.
