A Climbing Tour of Smoke Bluffs

Katrina took Clare and I on a grand tour of the Smoke Bluffs climbing area above Squamish today. We set off without her first, intending to get a few extra climbs in, but by the time she arrived, all we’d managed to do was have a nap on a bench below the routes at the ‘free and easy’ area!

As a team of three, we got on the ‘hand jammy’ gloves and set to work ticking off some of the classic crack climbs.

At the Smoke Bluffs area, it’s very quick and easy to walk between the different crags. We stopped briefly to climb ‘The Zip’, but were getting ravished by mosquitoes, so moved on quickly to ‘Pixi Corner’ for more classic climbs.

Up at the higher cliffs, we got great views of the Howe Sound and Squamish town below.

We followed Katrin up a hard finger crack on an exposed corner which almost finished me off!

But with the ‘hand jammies’ on, nothing could stop us making a quick ascent of Laughing Crack on the way back the the car.
