Feeling a bit better today, we went back up to the mountains to a cliff called 'Ay'. The weather is still sunny, but the wind is really strong and there are white horses out to sea. At the base of our cliff though, all was calm.
The rock is incredible - just what we'd hope for when we planned this crazy adventure. It's either tufa features, or razor sharp crimps of pocketed limestone. In places, you could stick you hand like velcro on the rock!
At the lower-offs at the cliff top, we had to hang on tight in the wind!
The routes are very well bolted - almost too many bolts! (we were not complaining though!).
The crag is in full sun, but trees shade the base. Once again, we saw no one all day.
By the time we'd done a few routes, not only were our fingers and toes tired from the tiny edges, our skin was also starting to feel it too!
We hiked back down to the car, via the dry river bed (known as 'the wash' in our translated guidebook).
On the hike back up the road, we passed a snake! And yes, this is the surface of a pretty good road around here!
On the drive home....
This is the main road out of town - it's hard to tell that it's a two lane road, because the left hand side, all the tarmac has vanished! Everyone wants to drive on the remaining tarmac, so we frequently had to swerve, or pull over as we rounded a corner to find drivers coming straight for us!
We made it back in one piece though. This is the view from our front door.
Before getting some bargain price kebabs for dinner, we checked out the beach again. Didn't swim today for the first time since being here. I looks very calm, but there is an off shore gale blowing!
