Idwal Slabs and the Continuation Walls

A lovely day at our local mountain crag. It's been a while since we've been up on the slabs, so were delighted to find that, with a late start, we had the place pretty much to ourselves.

We set off up the route called 'Hope', which is getting extremely polished, but the holds are all still positive and the rock is great.

We climbed it in four long pitches right into the base of the next route 'Lazarus'. This is also an excellent pitch, but beware, there are two separate, very loose flakes now. Both are chalked up like hand holds and when the come off, they are going to go crashing down the slabs. You have been warned!

It had been mostly overcast all afternoon, but when we reached the final pitch of 'The Arete', the clouds broke up and the sun shone.

We hung around and had a picnic with a view as the brightness was turned up on the day.

Instead of climbing 'Groove Above', which is very polished and tricky to get off the ground, we went left to 'The Arete', is continued the theme of 'great climbing'. A superb finale.

We walked back down the side of the slabs to our bags and were home in time for coffee!
