Solo in the Sunshine

The rock on the west face of Tryfan was radiating heat this evening! Not a cloud to be seen and temperatures still in the twenties. I didn't have much time, but thanks to the close proximity of The Cottage, I was able to get some time both in the sun and on the rock.

It took five minutes to run from the A5 to the base of Milestone Buttress.

Another ten minutes later and I was working my way up the top section of one of the classic routes, feeling the warmth and totally absorbed in the climbing.

I was quick enough to climb Pulpit Route, descend a gully and then make an ascent of Rowan Route, before running back down to the van. It felt brilliant to be moving so fast in the mountains, with only my tiny Lowe Alpine 'Spark' rucksack.

I was back down at the A5 in just over half an hour having climbed two multi-pitch routes! After a brain-boggling day, I returned more energized than ever, back to The Cottage. Sometimes going solo can really help de-clutter the mind. It was totally refreshing and mind cleansing...
