Last waves of the year

The last few days have passed in a blur of festive days and late nights. One evening I was part of the winning team at the Beacon Quiz after a very social and tiring bouldering session, another I was at a party at the Great Orme Brewery in Llandudno and in between all that I've been busy with various engagements, admin and even a carol service. Hence today was declared an official day off, which was lucky as we only just surfaced before midday!

Despite the need for rest, the lure of blue sky and clean waves got us to the beach after a delicious brunch. It didn't feel anywhere like December as the sun shone on us as we wriggled into wetsuits. Once in the water, we were reminded that it was definitely winter temperatures though! I had gloves, hat and wetsuit boots on and still came out of the water unable to feel my feet!

It was worth a bit of cold-ness though. Paddling out was easy, which always helps. The waves came through in lovely little sets and we both got some nice rides on small clean waves - In all likely hood, our last ones of the year, looking at the plans for the next few weeks. It really was a beautiful day at the beach with some amazing murmurations flying by out to sea and a low hazy sun.

There had been talk of going out dancing again in the evening, but once showered, fed and with the fire blazing, neither of us had the energy to leave... probably a sensible decision... for once...
