In the midst of a particularly busy day, Aled and I manged to hook up in the Ogwen Valley for a classic and a not so classic climb. With time being of the essence, we chose to climb on the edge of the Milestone Buttress after securing the last parking spot in the valley.
The route called 'Soapgut' is often a bit damp and slippery, but it's perfectly dry and grippy at the moment, so off we set.
The route links up with 'Chimmney Climb', which was rather green and desperate! Despite appearances, the wide off-width crack, did yield a few bit of protection and was climbable although the rock soon turned to grass, reeds and bushes! There was palpable relief when I discovered a fresh looking abseil station at the top, which provided a safe, quick and easy retreat, rather than a bushwhacking journey across the cliff tops to the other descent route.
I was down at the garage by five to pick up the van, where the temperature was reading 35 degrees!
Back at The Cottage, there was just time for a quick costume change so that I could record a prize giving video for tomorrows student Speech Day, before meeting up with the Outdoor Education team for celebratory drinks at our very own Eisteddfod.
