Penmaenmawr Mountain

A blustery, damp cold afternoon in the mountains, but marginally better on the coast! With a new local climbing guidebook in hand, we went to Pen Mountain to see if any of the newer climbs there looked worth a  visit once the weather warms back up.

We had done a route there years ago, but it had been so long ago that it felt like a new exploration. We were just on the edge of the weather and could see the rain pouring further down the coast.

We stayed nice and dry. There is an old quarry with loads of relics of days gone by, left rotting and rusting on the edge of the world.

Someone had made a couple of nice seats with a fantastic view off the cliff edge!

But it was a bit too cold for just sitting, even though the view was nice.

We managed to find the climbs we were looking for, which are spread about the various levels of the disused area (there is still a working quarry further down the hill!).

As we had suspected, the climbs were hardly in condition - in fact, this one had a waterfall pouring down it!

And around the edges, away from the good rock, there is a lot of unstable looking choss!

We were just about to head back to the van, when our weather luck ran out and the clouds caught us up. We finished the day with a good soaking!
