Back in March, we were due to watch a concert in Chester. Having had it canceled, rescheduled and then canceled, the revised dates meant that we were left with no concert, but with a non-transferable hotel booking. We decided to use the night away for a mini-cycle tour.
The weather wasn't exactly providing prime condition for our new adventure, but we did at least start out in the dry.
The route took us along the English/Welsh border, using old railway lines that had been turned into cycle lanes as well as a section along the bank on the river.
In a ride that was over 30km long, we only had to cycle on the road for a couple of kilometers and that was just to leave the hotel and get onto the cycle track.
We arrived into Chester City centre mid afternoon and took shelter at the Cathedral.
The drizzly rain was becoming heavy rain, so we ducked into a cafe to get a warm drink and out of the rain.
The coffee was good.
And it felt pretty safe being inside as we were the only customers.
Things had eased off by the time we had dried off and we only had a short ride to reach a hot bath, followed by some great food.
