Summer Storms

The weekend passed under heavy skies. Luckily, Friday was an online day so I was able to do my speech day duties online, from the warmth of the study while the rain hammered down. I'm not sure the usual marquee event would have survived. By Saturday 73mm was in the rain gauge here. Naturally, we went waterfall spotting in the morning and to briefly check the river. It was too high for me to want to get in (650 on the gauge).

Instead, we walked further into the meadow at the edge of the Nant Ffrancon, where the winds had claimed half an oak tree in the night.

Some kayakers were getting on, but we left them to it today and instead drove over to Llanberis and had a swim in the lake. It was a wet day, so we figured we might as well just get wet.

There was actually quite a strong flow heading down the Seiont at the end of the lake, where we got in. I had to swim hard to avoid disappearing off down the river! We swam against the flow for 600m and then had an easier ride back to the car. The rain has really dropped the water temperature and it felt cold.

In the village, there was great excitement as Rachel was opening her Ice Cream Shop today. It was clearly big news as there was actually a queue on the street (to be fair, there's not much open in Llanberis at the moment). We met our friends, Mat and Em there then walked back to their garden for a cuppa (much more useful after getting out of a very cold lake!).

There was a glimmer of sunshine over on Anglesey on Sunday, so we enjoyed our final day of restrictive travel sitting in our friend's garden, eating cake, drinking fine coffee and enjoying some good chat - all of which was really nice.

We even got a chance to have a quick walk along the Staits and reminisce by the old house. What a place that was to live in!
