Exploring the Arctic Archives

Today I spent the morning having a go at using an App on my phone to digitally scan some photos that I have on slide film. In the back of a wardrobe, there is a whole shoebox full of boxes of slides from my arctic expedition to Svalbard back in 1996 with the British Schools Exploring Society. The quality of the scans turned out pretty poor, the memories that the experience unearthed were priceless. Here are a few little gems for your viewing pleasure...

The explorer returns - freshly washed after 6 & 1/2 weeks in the same clothes

Trying to follow a bearing in  a whiteout on the icecap

Rock strata, where the glacier meets the sea

That hat! Morning bivi scenes

Science Camp

Midnight sun on our journey north

Spot the camp

On the move with Polar Bear protection

Stormbound and tent bound for three days

Here comes 'the weather'

Unclimbed peaks all around

And in other news... Our daily exercise was a gentle one after yesterday's work out. An evening stroll along the river.

And a beautiful moonrise as the sunset
