Morning Commute

I had to be in Llandudno this morning for a day of meetings, expedition packing, and preparations. I've always wondered if I'd be able to cycle there and now that I've got a decent bike, I decided (a bit spur of the moment), to give it a go and commute in by peddle power. I wasn't entirely sure how long it would take, so aired on the side of caution by leaving The Cottage just before 6:00am. All was peaceful as I made my way along the empty lanes as the sun came over the mountain.

I didn't see a single car until I reached Llanfairfechan. I was sharing the roads with just a few rabbits, birds and sheep. I pressed on quite fast for the first hour, but relaxed a bit past Penmaenmawr, once it looked like I was going to make it!

The tide was right in and flat calm. Eventually, the cycle route moves away from the A55 onto a sea side trail which was stunning.

It was fun to be exploring a new part of a route that I've driven a thousand time over the years! It even goes past a cliff I've never climbed right by the seaside and only accessible by the bike track.

Towards Conwy, the path was nice and smooth, the sun warm and the sea look idyllic. Pretty good for a commute I thought.

The Great Orme soon came into view and I knew that I was going to be ok for time, so could relax more and enjoy the views.

The bridge over the river Conwy (the A55 goes through a tunnel underneath here!) was beautiful. All was peaceful and still.

And the castle was catching the morning sun. This could be a great days holiday for some and here I was just cycling to work!

It was clear that I had plenty of time now, so at 07:30, sat down by the river and had a bit of breakfast and a leg stretch.

I then decided that I'd just about got time to celebrate my achievements with a cheeky coffee at my favorite coffee shop before riding the final few kilometers to Llandudno.

I made it feeling surprisingly energized and after a quick shower and change, was ready to take on the day! Amazing. I'd done it...
