Having had our taste of the city, we've had a great few days with the Boorman's out in the countryside in nearby Gisbourne. Some seamless logistics made for an easy transition, without having to haul our big bags too far. We began by leaving our city studio in the same airport transfer bus that had previously dropped us off...
This took us back to the airport, where Ian picked us up...
And took us to his house, after a bit of lunch in Gisbourne town. It could hardly be more Australian. Outside his house were literally hundreds of wild kangaroos bouncing around! What crazy, brilliant and unusual animals!
The next couple of days seem to have passed in a bit of a blur really. Although I don't seem to be jet lagged during the day, each night my brain has woken up at 3am even though my body has been dying to get to bed early!? Rather frustrating really, but am staying chilled about it...
One day we took a lovely walk up to the hill behind Ian's house which is just under 1000m and has a massive cross at the summit.
The views were fantastic...
Some of Ian's friends came over for dinner one evening and filled us in with plenty of knowledge regarding the rock climbing in Oz and the next day Ian and I went and checked out his very impressive homemade 'training facility'!
As we were driving around the neighbourhood on various errands, there were kangaroos everywhere, parrot type birds in the trees and most excitingly, the occasional Emu! They also have magpies here, except the black and white feathers are the other way round to back home.
Once the kids were in bed, we even managed to nip out for the occasional 'schooner' (3/4 pint) of the local 'VB' (Victoria Bitter), at a couple of local pubs to ensure that we had a complete and proper Aussie induction!
