Our last full day in Wendy the Campevan! Although we've still got a few more days to enjoy NZ, the campervan company had offered us a significant discount if we bought it back a few days early. Subsequently, it was a day spent mostly on the road, heading up the east coast towards Christchurch. Tomorrow we'll return the van and pick up a hire car for the remaining few days. On the way we stopped in a small town for a breather. By chance, we'd parked in front of a barbers shop, so I took the opportunity to pop in and get the birds nest that I've been cultivating on my head reduced. Feeling somewhat light headed, we then continued on our way north. Just out side of Christchurch, (after a quick pie stop!) on the main highway, we hit some road works. There is such little traffic here that it wasn't a problem that we all slowed down and went a few kilometres on the unsurfaced road (see photo below). I can't imagine drivers back home being terribly impressed with something like this on the M6!
We arrived at the quiet cove of Taylor's Mistake in the afternoon. We'd planned to spend our last afternoon here surfing, but the waves (or lack of them) had other ideas.
As there was no surf, we enjoyed the 'Plan B' option of a walk over the cliff tops and out to the headland.
After dinner the evening was spent sorting out all our kit ready for the exchange tomorrow. We seem to have accumulated rather a lot of stuff and even after donating various gifts to other campers nearby, it still only just squeezed it onto our bags!
