Climbing at La Culaz

After a restful day meeting up with Stu in St Gervais while the weather was showery, things had dried up quickly enough for a explore up and over the col behind the house. The temperature was a pleasant mid twenties despite the cloudy skies and the meadows were ringing with the sound of cow bells!

It's a pretty easy drive up to a spectacular parking area, where there's even a cafe in an old chalet (closed by the time we were finished climbing though!

The climbing is easy to access in about 5 minutes from the car and subsequently quite busy. Plenty of guided parties and big teams on the lower area.

But slightly further along, we had plenty of space to climb some of the three starred routes. The grades felt a little stiff compared to things we'd climbed recently, or maybe they just felt a bit bolder as there were less bolts? Either way, the rock is sound and the moves pleasing.

We did a few routes that shared lower-offs with harder climbs. This meant that we could then have a go at a harder route using the security of the top rope. It's surprising how much harder you can climb knowing that there is a rope above you!

La Culaz Climbs:
- Fais-toi Plaisir, 5b+***
- Des Pates et des Riz, 6b** (TR)
- La Novel, 5c*** - (4 bolts, 21m)
- Casse Tete, 6c** (TR)
