With all the guests finally departed and a good portion of the party stuff packed away or returned to lenders, we spent a final day at the Fort before setting off on 'Phase 3' of the summer adventures.
With the bike tour of Holland and Germany completed and the party celebrations all done, all that was left was the long drive south. Thankfully the roads were more or less empty, well, on the French toll roads at least. After an evening crossing of the tunnel, and an overnight stop near St Quentin, we set the cruise control and let the miles slip by, arriving here at our summer residence in the evening on Tuesday.
The chalet is newly built and it seems like we are some of the first guests to stay here.
We've even got a car port!
We are situated at the top of the village of Marnaz, in a really quiet area. Behind the house, we have a small patio that looks up to some huge limestone slabs, that hopefully, we'll get to explore at some point.
And from the front door, this was the view from the front door at sunset. I think we'll be okay here!
The following day, we didn't even wake up until 10:30am. The last month of travel and partying seem to have caught up on us. With the chalet shutter closed to keep out the heat and light, I'd slept uninterrupted for a solid eleven hours! It was a slow start to our planned rest day and boy did we need one. The weather is in the 'heatwave' category again, but luckily we have discovered a small lake just a few minutes drive down the hill from the house.
A little local exploration of our new neighbourhood and our first swim in over a month made for an excellent late afternoon evening activity.
After buying a few provisions, we were back at the pad in time for the rock slabs behind the chalet to glow pink in the evening sun.
A small glass of wine seemed to fit the moment nicely, before more sleep took over...
