Bank Holiday Perseverance

Not wanting to get caught up in any Bank Holiday crowds, we opted for climbing on one of the higher and less frequented cliffs in the valley. However, on arrival, we looked up to find a bank of heavy cloud stuck to the side of the mountain. It wasn't windy and looked like it was going to be staying there a while. We could have climbed it, but decided to leave it for a sunny day! Back at base, we swapped climbing gear for bike and set off on a ride instead. Only a mile later and my chain snapped! Perhaps we should have just stayed home!? This time though, we had the skills, tools and experience to sort things out. Having taken an hour to fix the chain on a previous tour, we got the job done in five minutes and were back on the move in under ten, feeling very accomplished!

We rode the balcony route over to Abergryngregn to own up to the café owner. I'd called in during the Duke of Edinburgh's expedition that I was monitoring on Saturday and had a brew with a colleague. We had a nice chat with the owner and once refreshed, cheerily waved goodbye to go and find the group. On Sunday, as I was doing the expedition accounts, I couldn't find a receipt for the café trip. I soon worked out that it was because we never actually paid!

Having cleared my conscious and my debts, we carried on to the sea, then returned back on a lower road to make a nice loop.

The hedgerows were brimming with flowers and the backroads, mostly clear of traffic.

Felt great to be back on bike power. Good training for the summer travels.....
