Southbound...

We arrived on French soil and after more nerve wracking queuing, eventually got off the ferry, passing the border control with two hours to spare before the national travel curfew. We were in. With the cruise control set high, we sped through the darkness as far as the town of St Quentins, where we checked in to the James Bond suite just before midnight...

Feeling refreshed from a good nights sleep, we've spent the day travelling south under glorious blue skies. The sun was low in the sky and for the first time in a while, I've been wearing sunglasses all day.

We've come as far south as the town of Macon. As we're not due in the Alps until tomorrow, there was no need to have a huge day of travel. Instead, we've been for a nice walk along the river after checking into a tiny studio.

The blue sky clouded over only a few miles from Macon causing the temperature to nosedive to just above freezing. It's a cool little town, with plenty of historic buildings to wander between. There's no mistaking that we're somewhere new.

We followed our noses along the river bank from the studio to the town square, where we chanced upon a Christmas market, complete with brass band in full flow.

We skirted what crowds there were and returned home just before dark as the travel fatigue began to kick in.
