Went for a last walk around the village square for some final Broughton experiences before handing back the keys to the house - filled up the van with diesel at the old style petrol station where someone puts the fuel in for you, had a sausage bap at the breakfast grill van by the Manor House and got a cake from the bakery. All thoughts of climbing were put to one side as the temperatures are still off the scale. Instead, we scanned the map and went for a walk up Eskdale to find some waterfalls and pools to keep cool in. Scale Gill provided a reduction in temperature, but wasn't quite deep enough for full 'chilling'.
On the other side of the valley, we discovered literally hundreds of people hiking up the valley to what, until recently, turned out to be the best 'secret' swimming hole in the lakes! Word was obviously out, so we kept ourselves well out of the way, coming across only the locals on the trail...
Instead of hiking up with the masses, we stopped at a deep pool and decided to call the explorations to a halt. It might be beautiful further up the valley, but we both decided that it wouldn't be today, given the number of people descending on it!
Cooled off, we returned back the van, which we'd parked in an empty climbers layby, to keep away form the traffic carnage we could see at the bottom of Hardknott Pass.
In the late afternoon, we arrived at in Gosforth where were treated to a fantastic night catching up with friends.
