Plockton by Paddelboard

By some astonishing good fortune, while strong winds are circling around the UK, the little town of Plockton is almost in the 'eye of the storm' with barely a breath of wind. It's still getting it's fair share of heavy rain, but without the wind, it means that the sea is calm for paddleboarding.

Given the rain, we set out in wetsuits and warm hats and went pretty much from the house, out to an island in the bay called Sgeir Bhuide. From the island we had really good close-up view of Duncraig Castle on the far shore. It's an incredible looking place that's now a very nice looking hotel (google it!). Having returned back home along the sheltered sea front of Plockton, we dived straight into a hot shower to warm our toes back up, then after a bit of lunch, set out for a bit more exploring. We wanted to check out a few more paddleboarding areas and beaches. Heading down to one such dead end road, involved passing by a herd of Highland Cows.

They were reluctant to let us pass initially, but once we got close enough, they stepped off the tarmac to let us pass.

They were real beauties and all sizes!

I thought this one might scratch the side of the van!

We saw the bridge over to Skye, but saved that for another day, instead we chose to return to Plockton and have a drink at the Hotel. They have one of the best view a beer garden could have and had put up a tarp tent to offer a bit of protection, but it did little to keep the rain off. It was slightly absurd, but very fun to stop off for a drink. An older couple were also braving the elements and directed us towards the complimentary jay cloths for wiping away the puddles on the benches! It's not often you go for a drink in full waterproofs and thermals in a monsoon, so we revelled in the craziness of it before returning home for a much warmer dining experince.
