There's not been much excitement to report over the last few weeks, hence the blog has been a bit quiet of late. Our enforced quarantine is almost over. Here's a bit of rhyming nonsense that's helped to pass the time.....
The Quarantine House Arrest
A destination, R-Rate low,
Seems sensibly, the place to go.
So travel plans must take a chance,
For cycle touring across France.
How best to reach the destination?
Ferries out; so’s aviation.
Avoid the busy terminals;
stay safe inside the car,
Journey through the tunnel;
a safer way by far.
It’s quiet there, in Brittany,
Where paths are flat and traffic-free.
The weather’s warm; can swim in sea,
No shortage of Patisserie.
With panniers full and strapped on tent,
Through the foreign lands we went.
Deux pain-au-choc; cafe au lait,
The secret fuel, to ride all day.
A click of gears and whir of chain,
No aching knees or buttock pain.
Self-propelled and side by side,
Full of joy, the couple ride.
Until connected with 3G,
Receive the news from BBC.
‘We’ve changed our minds - new calculation,
Return at once to your home nation’.
‘Create a crush at port and border,
Forget the social distance order’,
‘First come, first served; you’ve got twelve hours,
Then we’ll invoke our party powers’.
‘Regardless, what you’ve done or do,
It’s house arrest for both of you’.
‘The French you see, are deemed unclean,
You’ll need a two-week quarantine’.
Too far, too late - we can’t comply,
Without a private jet to fly.
So on we must by peddle power,
Dreaming of an en-suite shower.
The tour continues and provides,
With morning swims on the high tides.
Adventures greet us all the way,
With compass pointing to Calais.
It’s time to go to Cottage land,
We’ve online shopping ready planned.
But finally, to end the tour,
Get cheese and wine at the Carrefour.
One last revel in a public place,
While still allowed to show your face.
At Eurotunnel, it’s time to go,
I hope we’ve got enough Bordeaux?
So wash your hands and wear your masks, complete the extra hygiene tasks,
The best-laid plans, might seem the best, but there’s still a risk of house arrest!
