Around the Gulf du Morbihan

Well, after having to go for a swim at nine o’clock last night just to cool down and then enjoying a colourful sunset, it was with some surprise that we woke up to find it pouring with rain!

Some thunder in the night had prompted me to get up and collect in any clothes we’d left outside drying, which was lucky as by morning they’d have been soaked. Neither of us fancied a morning swim, so we got a brew on and waited for the rain to pass.

By 11am, it was easing off and we were getting restless. We’d decided to not go too far and explore a bit of the coast while we are down here. Also the temperatures are crazy inland still, so we may as well keep cool(er) and enjoy the sights down here on the Gulf of Morbihan.

At Surzur, we stopped in the cool of the church doorway for some food. We must have been given a sign because afterwards we found a five euro note on the road - the exact cost of using the washing machine at the camp later that day! Bonus! We now smell fresh(ish).

We meandered south along the banks of the gulf, stopping every now and then to cool off and take in the views.

The afternoon heat was tremendous again and by the time we reached Sarzeau, we were well and truly cooked. On a quiet day the town is probably quite nice, but today it was rammed! After getting some food and cold drinks, we were too tired to walk back to the shade of the church, so sat down where we were and scoffed the lot. It didn’t touch the sides.

The campsite at the south coast beach was full, but just in land we found another. They let us put the tent up in a garden just outside the campsite, but use the facilities. The showers felt amazing, but ten minutes later we were glistening with sweat again. We stayed awake long enough for a cold drink and a pizza van to replace some nutrients.
