More New, Old Footpaths

The last few evenings have been absolutly magic. There's not been a cloud in the sky and the sunsets have been tremendous.

This evening, after a tip-off from our neighbour, we set out to explore some local footpaths to see where they went and discovered a beautiful old oak woodland, filled with bluebell and apple blossom. As is usually the case, the photo below doesn't quite do the moment justice, but just before we got to the woods, the full moon rose over the mountains (it's in the right-hand side of the pic, if you look closely!). We stopped and watched for a while before moving on.

As promised, there was a little old footpath heading up onto some common land. It was part of the old quarry routes between the hamlets and villages here, and slowly gained height above the old railway.

We got a real fright, when we came across this dude blocking the path. We were so engrossed in conversation, that we almost walked into them! There wasn't really much negotiation to be had with those horns, so we backed away slowly and found a different path!

This led us further uphill. We had the map, but preferred to just follow a path and see where it took us. There were bluebells everywhere. As the dusk began to fall, all we could hear was the birds, who were singing so loudly, it reminded me of being in the jungle in South America. So many different noises and not a breath of wind. We felt like explorers in a new land.

Eventually, we found a place where we could see the sea and the eastern tip of Anglesey! Soon after, we were able to rejoin familiar terrain, which took us quickly back down to The Cottage. We couldn't believe that we'd never walked this section of path before, just minutes from the house.
