Chamonix Grand Balcon Sud

Set out on foot day to explore our local neighbourhood on foot. The valley is so steep sided that there is no getting away from a bit of up hill sweating without cable car assistance, however today we both fancied going under our own steam.

It was really hot in the valley and we almost drove down to Lac Passey for a swim, but neither of us fancied driving in the car. Instead, we walked from the front door and after following a shady uphill track, traversed above the town on the 'balcony trail'. The views are quite incredible and we had a full view across to My Blanc the whole way.

We descended down to Les Galliands, where we stopped briefly to check out our closest rock climbing area. It was way too hot for climbing, but the cliffs were still teeming with climbers. I was more than happy to return to the pad for a nap!
Rachel and Stu had invited us for a BBQ in the evening and we had a great night with catching up with them and some other mutual friends before walking into Les Houches to watch an enormous (rib shaking-ly loud), firework display and live music, put on to celebrate Bastille Day.
