Overnight, the mountains of Snowdonia have been transformed! A good dusting of white has fallen from about 700m upwards and created great conditions for my winter walking group.
Last nights downpours had all cleared away by mid-morning and so had the winds, so although the air temperature was cold, it was otherwise ideal conditions for a mountain walk.
We were soon up in the snow and delighting in the frozen world, pick ice out of puddles and making shapes in the snow. It was lovely not to be worried about the weather or conditions as all was 'set-fair' for the day and we could take our time.
Every little blade of grass had rime ice growing along the windward side of it, which sparkled in the bright sunshine.
We had lunch on the top of Elidr Fach, before setting off up the final steeper slope of Elidr Fawr.
The sun stayed low all day, giving us some good, long, shadows.
On top, we huddled in the cairn, took photos and just looked quietly around. Brilliant.
