The final day of the tour has finally arrived! For the last time, we packed up our panniers and set out into the city. There was no major rush to get to the airport, so we enjoyed a coffee in the street cafe and a sandwich in the park as we crossed the city.
The ‘Arlanda Express’ took us from the city centre, directly into the airport on a refreshingly cool train.
Once inside the airport, for the final time, we got the bikes bagged up and the gear all wrapped up into ‘flight mode’.
As we waited to board the plane, we watched our bikes get handled carefully into the cargo hold. We also watched our panniers going up the conveyer belt. It looked like quite a smooth operation until one of them fall off the top of the belt and down onto the tarmac! It looked like no one had noticed for a while and that the plane might just run over it, but eventually one of the baggage handlers noticed it and lifted it into the hold.
Later that evening in Manchester, we wheeled our way out of the airport, found the van and headed home... What a tour...
