Camp was a nice place to wake up this morning, having arrived in the rain.
Our current morning routine involves Clare getting the brews on outside, while I pack away the inside.
While we ate breakfast, we lay the tent in the sun to dry, before heading off into the sunshine.
We passed by lots of cornfields and a few cool old windmills.
At Viken, we took a short break. We’d barely got going really, but there were some really comfy sun loungers on the harbour and the water was mirror calm. It was so tranquil, we felt compelled to stop for a while.
There were also some fishermen statues, gesticulating at the size of their recent catches. I sat and chatted with them for a bit. Nice guys.
At the next town of Höganäs, the temperature was rising. Loads of people were in the sea, but we carried on past in search of a quieter lifestyle.
We found it just around the headland along with a smooth tarmac, waterside cycleway. We stopped for a swim at a quieter little port called Lerhamn. We ate lunch first by a bush in the only bit of shade we could find as the sun was intense. After swimming we found a hose pipe for washing boats and showered the salty water off each other. Because the pipe had been laying in the sun, the water was hot! A lovely rinse off!
While we were riding, I was excited to be charging the batteries for the Garmin GPS using my Solar Panel.
We tried our best to stop for tea and cake at a recommended cafe (the only one we came across!), but it was so busy (and old fashioned), that we gave up waiting and although we were tired, carried on riding. Instead, at the next town, we found substance in a yogurt drink from the ICA Supermarket to wash down a chunk of lasagna, eaten cold, from the deli. From then on, we were on the search for somewhere to camp. So far we’d been lucky, and things are always harder when you’re tired. After passing this windmill, we took a punt down a dead end road towards the sea.
After riding to the edge of a nature reserve, we pushed our bikes around an area of woodland, out of sight of any houses. There was a good flat spot by a picnic table, but very exposed to the wind, so we opted for a sheltered bit of shade in the long grass instead. We were both deliriously tired and frazzled from the sun. It wasn’t an ideal spot, but it was good enough. We collapsed on the the tarp and I fell asleep a few minutes later!
After a nap, we mustered the energy to cook an amazing meal of carrots, couscous and falafels, with a yogurt and herb dressing! Not bad for camp cooking. Sleep followed shortly after.
Total Ride: 57.9km
