I’ve been on the move again! This time I’ve flown south to run a student climbing expedition in Sardinia.
We flew on Thursday from Manchester and had great views of the south coast of England before crossing the channel.
We arrived late at night after driving (in an immaculate, one week old VW Transporter!) from the Airport at Olbia. I always enjoy waking up in a new place and seeing the new view for the first time; having arrived under cover of darkness. Before breakfast we walked down to the beach to put our feet in the Med!
As we had no provisions for the first day, the group searched out somewhere to have breakfast and hit gold with this Hotel cafe near the sea! It was certainly one of my better ‘expedition rations’!
Once we’d got fed and found a bigger shop to stock up on supplies, we set out for what we’d come for - bolted rock climbs!
There was no shortage of rock to climb at our chosen venue of ‘Poltrana’. There is a huge cliff here that Clare and I climbed over ten years ago. We may make an ascent later in the week, but for now we warmed up on the lower flanks.
In the full sunshine, the rock was hot, but a breeze and a few clouds made it enjoyable for climbing. One of the team was celebrating a birthday today, so instead of cooking, we went from our campsite for a second meal out of the day! Pizzas by the sea side! A good start to our expedition indeed...
