At Camp in Cauterets

There was no rush to leave the luxury of the hotel in the morning. The clouds hung low and there was no sign of the mountains around us. We headed up to the town of Cauterets, where we hoped to climb next, after a quick look around the town we were in. The buildings were great....

...But the most excitement came when Clare found a baguette vending machine! Shops all shut for lunch? No problem! Slip in a Euro onto the slot...

And hey presto, lunch is sorted! Fresh as they come! Bonkers.

Barney and Sinead were ahead of us and had recommended the GR10 Campsite on the edge of town. We checked in and had a brew with them before heading up to check out the town and maybe, if it started drying, the climbs. We were both surprised at how big the place is. Loads of beautiful old, grand buildings again - we sacked off the wet walk to a crag idea - and spent the afternoon exploring the town. There's an old indoor market, decorative building fronts and plenty of kit shops to keep us occupied.

The local bakers all seemed to have a specialty preference for giant muffins! Mmmmmm....

There was even an old merry-go-round.

Back at camp the afternoon merged into evening while we got some work done by the van. Eventually, a light rain started up and we all cosied in by the van for dinner and general merriment.
