North Wales Limestone Esoterica

Rain somewhat stopped play today. We'd hedged our bets by driving to the coast in search of some drier conditions, but in the end time was mostly against us. After meeting for a late lunch burrito in Rhos on Sea, we set off in search of dry rock. On the way out to the Great Orme, we stopped off briefly at the small cliff of Chwarel Bach y Penrhyn. It was basically still raining on the Orme, we went to check it out, as it was at least dry.

It's not the most inspiring bit of rock, but it did dry very quickly!

We did the few routes that there were to do, but unfortunately, it is situated right by a road and was pretty noisy. Not quite the seaside ambience we had hoped for! We moved on pretty quickly and as the skies were starting to clear, carried onto the Orme as planned.

Once through the busy streets of Llandudno, the tranquil top of Marine Drive was a welcome relief. To our delight, as the sun came out, we discovered we had some coffee and biscuits in the van stores! Bonus! Decided to forget about the climbing and had a brew in the sunshine instead! It's been ages since we used the van in this way and it was great fun - turned a damp day into a sunny holiday.

 

After a cuppa and before the light faded, we did walk down to check out some cliffs for future visits, but decided not to climb as it was getting late.

 

The drive off the Orme alway gives an amazing view and this evening was no exception.
