Carreg Mianog is a friendly little crag on the mountain side of the Carneddau that, for some reason sees little attention from climbers. It's a steep but easy thirty minute walk up from the valley floor and on a cool but sunny October afternoon, it's a nice little sun trap.
There was a bit of bog hopping required before getting to the boulder field below the cliff, but once there we were rewarded with warm grippy rock, shelter from the light breeze and splendid views.
The two routes that we climbed were excellent, with good positions and great gear. From the top, it's quick walk back round to the base.
And in terms of views from the belay, it takes some beating!
Especially when the sky is this blue above you! It was also a good place to try out the Rab Vapour-rise Guide Jacket, as once up on the top of the cliff, we were exposed to a light, but chilly wind. I had the hood up over my helmet while belaying and the fleece lining inside kept me super snug.
Even though the A5 road was relatively close, the summit views feel very remote. There was just us and our shadows.
Walked back down as the sun dipped behind Tryfan....
