Lifted my head off he pillow and peered out of the window this morning to see Geoff and Lou at the waters edge, psyching up for a morning swim. Clare was soon out with them and although my eyes were still half asleep, I wasn't going to be left out! I stumbled out of bed, into swimmers and onto the sandy beach. Seconds later I was underwater and very much awake! Conveniently, I could walk directly into the camp showers for a warm up and wrinse off afterwards!
After breakfast, we said goodbye to the guys and set off to have a look at nearby Sunshine Beach in search of some waves.
Sunshine beach holds the most consistent swell, so we checked out the north end, which is supposed to be the best spot. There was a strong cross wind at the beach and a surfing competition being held on the main zone, but we still managed to get in and hold our own in the choppy waters to the south.
We both wore our shorty wetsuits as the water is starting to get warmer up here. Having borrowed my shortsleeve summer suit, I found it was a bit tight, (much to Clare's amusement), but it did feel good to be sleeveless.
The session came to an end, when Clare floated past a big blue bottle jellyfish! She signalled to me and headed for the beach. I caught a wave in and on the beach we saw a few more. We asked a local, who said the winds had most likely washed them in. 'They won't kill you, but the hurt like hell'. Enough said; the surf wasn't good enough for risking that! We retired to the van.
Given that it was a busy weekend and we already had a chilled and quite campspot, we returned at late afternoon for a relax by the river. Got the rug out, made a brew and enjoyed the sunshine while making plans for the week ahead.
Took an evening stroll along the river just before dark and chanced upon a cool little restaurant that supplied us with a seat on their terrace, some glasses of crisp white wine, and some amazing crumbed olives, filled with feta. A nice place indeed to watch the stars come out.
Luckily it wasn't too far back to camp...
