Climbing in Sardinia - Cala Gonone

First day of sport climbing above the village of Cala Gonone today. Blue skies and hot!

Despite the desire for a lie-in, we opted for an early start so that we could climb on a particular crag while it was still in the shade. While we breakfasted it was already super hot and promising to get hotter! I took this photo as we left the car and began the sweaty walk up to the cliffs. Phew!

The lads all managed some good climbing and we'd all worked hard before the sun came around.

The views from the cliffs were good and the climbing nice (if a little polished), but into the afternoon the heat was too much to take...

The hire car was practically on fire...

Back in the village, a coffee and ice cream in the shade did a good job of reviving us, before we explored our local surroundings. While the group had some free time, Kirsty and I re-energised by taking a very refreshing dip in the sea: accessed by jumping off some rocks at the back of the harbour wall. The water is turquoise colour and crystal clear: very inviting to a tired, overheated rock climber! It was quite cold, but refreshingly so rather than hypothermically so. Bliss in fact! Nice end to the day..
