Climbing at Rainbow Walls, Llanberis Slate

Llanberis Slate Quarries - like a scene from Dr Eveils lair in a James Bond film...

'Bella Legusi is Dead' (E1, 5b) is a classic climb of the Lanberis slate quarries and well worth the walk down to find it! It's been a while since I was last down at Rainbow Walls, but we followed our noses and found it easily enough.
The climb follows a natural crack line for about 25m straight up. As the guidebook suggests, there is 'adequate' protection. Make sure you have some small wires with you though. Positive holds all lead up to a ring bolt belay at the top.

Then it's just a case of abseiling back down. A totally brilliant route: an obvious line with absorbing climbing.

The quarries can be an eerie place to climb in sometimes and it often feels like you never know what you might come across. On the walk back to the car, we came across a secret rave in one of the old quarry engine houses (complete with generators, sound systems and disco lights - good effort guys!). We declined the invite to stay and party and continued onwards past a herd of giant horned goats! Only in Llanberis...

Made it back to the van for sunset...
