Hut Bound...

Thick mist and a snowfall greeted us this morning and no amount of optimism could sway the forecast. Given our close proximity to the Italian border, I was quite keen to navigate up the the col above the hut, if for nothing else but to try out my new Garmin GPS.

Using the GPS and various marker poles, we made our way up along where the summer road was buried below us in the snow.

It didn't take long to reach the border, where the wind was whipping over the col from Italy. It was no place for a picnic.

We did a short walk up a ridge in search of a Geo-Cache and got within 10m of it, but wherever it was, it was well and truly buried.

With the poor visability, we opted to ski along the safety of the road back down to the hut.

It was a very low speed affair, but for me, it's always nice to be moving downhill on skis.

The Hut came into view all too soon and we retreated back inside for some lunch. The afternoon passed in a chess playing daze. It was hard not to be too frustrated with the weather, but that was the gamble that I made yesterday. There's still the outside chance of some sunshine tomorrow morning so we are going to stick it out up here as tomorrow is our last chance to ski anyway...
