Stunning Scotland

Well it's been worth the long drive north! Unbelieveable conditions in the Highlands today. Utterly stunning - Mountaineering in Scotland at its best...

Not a breath of wind and not even a snow flake in the air.

The morning high layer of cloud soon moved away to give a stellar day of crisp clear skies.

We started off by taking the chairlift upto the White Corries, from Glencoe Mountain Resort. This got us up high to give us a nice head start as we climbed out first peak of the day - Creag Dhubh (748m). Here we had views right across Rannoch Moor, over to Ben Nevis and everywhere else in between. Winter beauty.

From there we followed the ridge up the edge of the ski zone to Meall à Bhuiridh (1108m).

Where the views just got better and better...

There were long shadows across the moor from the summit.

Just to top things off, a bit of mist suddenly rose up from the valley and we got to see a brocken spectre! (Circular rainbow with me in the middle). Bonus!

And then when we thought that things couldn't get any better, we discovered a fire side sofa with a pretty ace view to relax on!

On the drive back to the hut, we saw some deer...

Dinner was served with a classic Scottish tipple of 'Irun-Bru'

It's almost been 'Alpine Style' - great weather, chairlifts, cafes with a view and stunning vistas! Long may it last!! It's been a great return to Scotland for me! :-)
