There aren't many places in the world where you can wake up late by the mountains, surf through midday, then climb until sundown, but today, North Wales provided all the above. And despite being the first of November, we had solid blue skies, no wind and temperatures reaching nineteen degrees! Unbelievable! Have been feeling very lucky to be able to live here and have all this on our doorstep.
There was a decent sized swell at Rhosnigr, although a lot of the waves were quite hard to catch. But with weather like this, it was just a pleasure to be out in the ocean. I got some nice fast rides as well as my fair share of tumbling about when it all went wrong!
After a few hours in the surf, we continued north to South Stack, to climb on Holyhead Mountain, which was surprisingly deserted.
It was beautifully warm when we arrived, but a sudden little bank of sea mist threatened to plunge us into darkness for a bit!
Luckily it just blew past and we were left with blissfully hot rock that radiated the sun's heat!
There were no other climbers around, not a breath of wind and all was quiet. After enjoying a climb, we spent a while on the top soaking up the views and the tranquility of it all.
We decided to head back before headtorches were required....
And were greeted by this view as we arrived back at the van. Happy days indeed...
Just over half an hour later, we had the kettle on and the fire lit back at the refuge of The Cottage basecamp.
