Between jobs, we managed to have a mini surf holiday today! We were up early to fit it all in, but managed to be both productive and leisurely all in the same day!
Having ticked off our first tasks, we called into our favourite coffee shop to re-group and re-focus. After a bit of chat with friends there and a mug of north wales' finest coffee, we made it to the beach in time for high tide.
Morning mists were clearing when we got in and it soon turned into a stunner. An early alarm and wrestling into a soaking wet wet suit had been well worth the effort. The waves might have been small, but they were peeling off beautifully and the light off-shore wind was pushing a spray up into the air which glistened with rainbows! Beautiful.
Compared to the busyness of yesterday, today seemed like a different place completely. I was one of three surfers out there and we all knew each other. Blue sky, sandunes, easy waves and friendly faces all made for a wonderful morning.
The air was much cooler than yesterday and we both regretted not putting our gloves in! A real autumnal feel. We surfed until we were getting too cold to function, then headed to the cafe for a warm up! There was a picture in the shop of the surf break that we had surfed in Fiji earlier this year - the waves weren't this big back then though! Phew!
Keeping the holiday vibe alive, Clare tried on a few new wetsuits, then the cafe sorted us out with hot green tea, which we drank on the sofa looking out to sea. Beans on toast followed and gave us the energy we needed to walk back to the van and get home to The Cottage. By the time we'd showered and wrinsed the wetsuits, it was time to head back out as we'd been invited over to Llanberis for dinner. On the drive over, the colours of the mountains and trees looked spectacular in the low sunlight. We stopped several times to soak it up, before enjoying a great evening of fine foods with some great friends.
Autumn is starting to take effect...
