After all the excitement of the last few days, we enjoyed a slow start and checked out of our log cabin at the last possible moment. It had been a very comfy stay, although we'd both had quite a restless nights sleep. We headed off north in the direction of Lake Tahoe, but must have missed a crutial junction because before long were surprised to find ourselves crossing over the boarder into Nevada! Oops! It didn't really matter though and instead meant that we took a scenic route over the mountains which dropped us down to the shores of South Lake Tahoe.
It's a much busier place than mammoth and looks much more like what we'd call a ski resort. (Apart from the giant casinos on the edge of town). The ski gondola was still running, but I can't imagine there was any descent skiing to be had as the mountains are very green, with only the odd snow patch here and there. Down at the lake shore, we took a short walk along the beach.
