Journeying around the world in Las Vegas

Another day of travelling around the world in Las Vegas. First stop was France (Paris to be precise) for breakfast coffee and muffins (at midday) in a rocking chair over looking the main strip and the Bellagio fountain displays. A nice relaxing, slow way to start the day.

This was our morning panorama as we supped our drinks, watched the world go by and generally started to wake up.

A short while later, we stopped for some eggs and toast at the Harley Davidson Cafe to suppliment our sugary start.

Feeling re-fresher and re-fuelled, we travelled across the road and to New York.

In New York we had a little dabble (with various degrees of luck) on the slot machines, before getting inducted into the much more exciting world of Roulette.

When our luck was starting to dwindle, we found our way back outside to the daylight, armed with a pretzel and smoothie to keep our stamina up. (But only after watching a guy loose $400 on the roulette table and meeting an American who'd never been to the UK, but did work for a company called Sealed Air in Kettering - where I used to have a holiday job!)

Back outside, we headed through the casinos towards our suite to take a rest. The buildings are all fantastic and some are real neck crainers! It's even more amazing to think that they are all hotels! That's a lot of rooms up there!

After a shower and freshen up we headed over to 'Treasure Island' to see a Cirque du Soleil show called Mystere. The show was unbelievable, with acrobatics, music and lights moving at such a pace that it was hard to keep up with what was going on! The stage rotated 360 degrees and would periodically open up, tilt or descend to let the acrobats disappear out of sight into the depths of the theatre. The ceiling also opened up and trapeze artists dropped out of the sky above us! We had really great seats (somehow?!) and were only two rows from the front. At times the trapeze artists swooped low right over our heads! There were acrobatics, displays of unbelieveable strength and balance, trampolines, poles, ropes, springboards, colourful costumes endless somersaults. After the fantastic performance I was left somewhat in awe of what the human body can do!

All the excitement had left us hungry, so we went next (via Venice and Rome) to the Mirage Hotel, where the main restaurant was just closing. It was a few minutes before midnight, so they let us in and we sat at the kitchen bar and had some fresh cooked pasta and a beer from a tin bottle.

The food and beer perked us up enough to return to the Roulette table, where I'd been instructed to win my little nephew enough cash to pay for his college education. Despite a promising start, we managed to leave with less money than we started with, (which is a theme that ran through my college education!). Despite the lack of winnings, we still went out to celebrate a crazy couple of Vegas days by stopping in at our new favourite cocktail bar called Carnivals, where a band were playing and a descent size crowd were dancing. We got stuck straight in and danced until we had only enough engery left to make the short walk home. We made it back just in time, before collapsing into bed.
