Electrical Storms!

Last night was a real wild one! It must have been one of the best/most impressive storms we've had here in Wales. The thunder was alpine-esque and literally shaking The Cottage - and there was continuous forked lighting that lasted for over an hour! Amazingly the electricity stayed on, although we had the fire lit and candles at the ready just in case.

The rain came through in pulses and poured down so hard it was like someone was outside with a hose pipe blasting on the skylights! About 40mm of rain fell and this morning the Afon Ogwen looked perfect for paddling. That was a bit too advanced for my beginner group of 14 year old kayakers that I was coaching today though! - so we went to Llyn Padarn, near Llanberis.

The lake was very high, and the waters were lapping around the benches in the car parks! We really lucked out with the weather, as it was a horrendous start to the day, with high winds and heavy rain. By the time we got on the water though, the wind had completely dropped and the rain eased off.

Had a nice day on the lake, but a brain ache later stopped me heading out to the beach for a sundown surf. The clocks turn soon, so I was keen to get out in the evenings while you still can, but it turned out to be a good evening to stay put in The Cottage, as the rain is pouring down again!
